Subject: Anyone know of a good algorithm for non-disjoint set packing?
I have a vector of sparse sets, (it could also be
viewed as a matrix with sparse columns), and I'm
looking for an algorithm and/or heuristics that
will rewrite or create a mapping of the sets so that
they're as tightly packed as possible (in polynomial
time), without necessarily being disjoint.
Example, where each column is a set:
0 1 3 4
4 3 7 6
8 7 8 8
9 6 11 10
22 9 20 22
I'd like the sets to be rewritten so that
each set is as contiguous as possible.

On your C/C++ question...
[Re. an executable:] To compile the code you will need
to upload it to the server (which can be done in the CNC
file manager) and then compile it with either the gcc
or g++ commands. In order to run the compiler commands
you will need to log into the command line shell with
either telnet or ssh. If your code has a Makefile with
it that will also work with the make command. Once you
have compiled your code the resulting binary can be
placed into your cgi-bin and used as a cgi program.
